Android Automotive は Android のベース プラットフォームであり、プリインストールされた IVI システムの Android アプリに加えて、セカンド パーティとサードパーティの Android アプリも動作します。
Android Automotive を使用することで、自動車のインフォテインメント システムとヘッドユニットをオープンな環境でカスタマイズして拡張できるようになります。オープンな環境とすることで、基本的な車載インフォテインメント機能を無料かつオープンソースのコードベースで提供でき、効率が改善します。カスタマイズを可能とすることで、実装時にプロダクトを自由に差別化できるようになります。拡張は Android の共通フレームワーク、言語、API を通じて行われます。世界中の何十万もの Android デベロッパーによる、開発の専門知識と完成したソフトウェアの再利用が実現します。
